Jets rookie makes brutal blunder vs. Texans: ‘What in the heck is he thinking?’

Malachi Corley almost had his first career touchdown Thursday night against the Texans. Instead, he will remember his second touch as a pro football player for all of the wrong reasons.
Corley took the ball 19-yards into the end zone for what was initially ruled to be the Jets rookie’s first touchdown. But a review showed that he dropped the ball before crossing the goal line, and the play ruled a fumble. The ball rolled to the back of the end zone for a touchback and Houston got the ball at the 20.

“What in the heck is he thinking?” Kirk Herbstreit said on the Amazon Prime broadcast. “Why the urgency for some of these guys to drop the ball? Even if it’s close. Finish the play. Get it in the end zone.”

Corley’s only other touch this season came in Week 2 against Tennessee. His almost-touchdown would have put the Jets on the board Thursday night.
The Jets traded up in the third round of this year’s draft to pick Corley with the No. 65 overall pick out of Western Kentucky.
